As a comprehensive center for pediatric healthcare, Boston Children’s Hospital offers care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. Children’s records approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions each year, and its 258 specialized clinical programs schedule more than 557,620 visits annually.

“At Boston Children’s we care for children from all backgrounds, unique needs, and many with the most complex conditions,” says Sandra L. Fenwick, President, and CEO. “We provide the best experience and outcomes possible to every family that walks through our doors.”

Since 2011, Boston Children’s has been working with local businesses and organizations to solidify its position in the healthcare industry and regional community as an environmental leader. The facility has deployed energy efficiency programs and saved the equivalent of 3,793 metric tons of carbon dioxide emission per year.

Sustainability at Boston Children’s remains a commitment and focus on recyclable products in healthcare. On The Right Track offers the only 100% circular domestic recycling program for hospital curtains.  At the end of their useful life, the curtains are returned to the manufacturer in specially lined boxes and regenerated into usable healthcare products. Infection control standards require the hospital to change the privacy curtain on a prescribed basis. OTRT curtains reduce waste by several tons per year. Using recyclable cubicle curtains is essential to build a sustainable health community.

Dedicated to the best practices of infection prevention, Boston Children’s has created a safe environment for patients, families, and healthcare workers. Products conforming to the Healthier Hospitals Healthy Interiors Goal of being chemical-free are a priority. On The Right Track® cubicle curtains are the only curtain to meet these chemical-free standards.

Additionally, as one of the most touched surfaces in the patient room, cubicle curtains are a proven source of cross-contamination. Research has shown that potentially harmful bacteria can soil traditional textile fabric and the laundry process is unlikely to remove all traces of C. diff and other pathogens. Avoiding the laundry procedures of the traditional textile curtains results in a reduced risk of patients exposed to potential infections.

Properly designed recyclable/disposable curtains are an alternative solution for environmental services, best practices, sustainability, and facilities management. On The Right Track has a twelve-year history supporting the healthcare systems with their sustainable, efficient approach to create a healthy, safe environment.
